about

Sometime in the middle of 2013, I realized I was in a major funk and was unhappy with the way some of my life choices were panning out and where they were leading. Although I had participated in a number of short-lived projects in the interim, I had not done any proper recording since Age of war years prior. I decided it was time to reinvigorate the Saladin name and try my hand at playing again. Almost everything about this album was recorded differently than those past: new drum program, new recording program (I had used Garageband for Wish You Were Here, but I didn't really understand it), new amp, new pedals, almost no effects on the vocals, less harsh guitar sound, etc etc etc. While recording this album, in addition to recording Kaiju Daisenso's eponymous EP (kaijudaisenso.bandcamp.com/releases), I felt I had hit the missing piece in my life: engaging in creative pursuit. Despite a lot of elements in my personal life being turned on their head, I had a new sense of purpose that propelled me through. Like older Saladin albums, these songs are far from current. However, many tracks required lyrics some of them were freshly written in the wake of some hard times. In the end though, I realized that I had to embrace the refrain of the album's penultimate track "Search, Yearn, Live, Burn" and do what I needed to do for myself.
